Grew up with Mike in the Collins Park area went to school with him through High school. He was a gentle Giant and a nice guy. We spent time on the football field beating each other up and down the feild. He passed several years back and got a chance to go to his funeral and catch up with his family. For those of us that played football at Smith and South he will be remembered as a gratr guy with a big heart. Rest in Peace Mike and may god bless you!
Mike & I went to Appalachian to play football & Mike to major in History. During our first two days of orientation Mike said, "Let's go take the History exam and see if we can place out of the General College requirement & pick up eight quarter hours credit". Mike was a fun loving guy & History buff, so made it sound like an exciting thing to do. Having almost failed World History our last semester at South, which would have put a damper on my cap & gown plans, I was reluctant, but Mike insisted. So we joined about 60 History enthusists who volunteered to take a test. When we returned later that day for the verdict, I was not surprised that the five winners included Mike--I was just glad we were sitting down when my name was called. Thanks Mike for getting my college career off to a good start and for being a great roommate.
