Gail was the undisputed champion of lunch time Ping Pong at South.  All you guys she gave a "pattling to" know of what I speak.  I knew my only hope was to get her on my home court/table if eking out a victory was to be remotely possible.  Gail arrived at the appointed time chauffeured in a white Corvair by her cheering section, Becky Ward.  After the match, logistics dictated Gail take the Corvair to her chiropractor to recover from the encounter, and I drive Becky to her job at South Park.  Shortly thereafter we graduated and they went to Carolina as roommates.  During her Sophomore year, Gail contracted Bacterial Meningitis while tutoring an Elementary School student in Math.  She died several days later.  Her passing and efforts of her physician, Joe Sparling, resulted in changes in how individuals presenting her symptoms were cultured and treated in student and public health centers--undoubtedly saving numerous lives.  Gail was such a kind person with a great dimpled smile.  Occasionally when I accompany Becky (now Rebecca) to a mall and always when I see Ping Pong being played, I think of the person who brought us together.
