Michael Charles ("Michael") and his younger brother were killed in December 1970 when his Volkswagen Beetle was accidentally struck by a police vehicle in downtown Charlotte. Michael had moved to Charlotte from Rhode Island before senior year began. He had just picked up his little brother up his little brother from Hebrew school when the accident occurred.
